I don’t have money for a greenhouse which would be ideal and I would rather not fight with chicken wire myself – they have long tongues and I need raised pots somehow as I’m disabled. They will knock pots off a shelf….

Lynnette Green, Miners lettuce was an interesting plant I found flourishing after spring sprung! Tasted like pea pods! Its harvest time is a very short window! The original owner did have an edible yard! Passion fruit vine, fig tree, purple flowers popping right after the Daffodils die. Tulips full bloom on Easter morning. Loved that old town Medford, Or

If you want Monarchs, plant milkweed. You can get free milkweed seeds here, or pay for seeds in larger quantities. https://www.livemonarch.com/free-milkweed-seeds/
Lavender I believe will attract other butterflies as well as butterfly weed and butterfly bush
I plant parsley for swallowtail butterfly caterpillars. I had 2 plants with 9 caterpillars on them last year. This year I am going with 6 plants to see if I can get more (my toddler children love watching them go!)

Coneflowers will attract butterflies too…good luck!

One day I hope to have only edible plants, no grass in my yard, to share with the neighbors.
